Zerion · 2026-04
The Zerion security incident involved a targeted AI-enabled social engineering attack against a team member’s device, which resulted in the compromise of active sessions, credentials, and private keys to internal hot wallets, allowing attackers to steal approximately $100K in company funds; however, the impact was contained due to strong architectural isolation, with no user funds, apps, or backend infrastructure affected, as Zerion’s self-custodial model prevented access to user assets, and production systems remained segregated; in response, the team rapidly secured infrastructure, took the web app offline to prevent malicious deployments, rotated all credentials and keys, audited employee devices, and collaborated with security partners to track attacker wallets, highlighting that even well-secured systems remain vulnerable to advanced, AI-driven human-targeted attacks, with key lessons centered on strengthening authentication, device security, and employee awareness against increasingly sophisticated social engineering threats.

SlowMist Hacked (hacked.slowmist.io)

Zerion · 2026-04-11
Description of the event: An employee device at Zerion was compromised through an AI-driven social engineering attack, allegedly linked to a DPRK-associated advanced persistent threat (APT) group. The attacker successfully obtained the employee’s logged-in sessions, account credentials, and private keys to company hot wallets used for internal testing and operations, and subsequently transferred approximately $100,000 from multiple internal hot wallets. No user funds were affected in this incident, and Zerion’s products, mobile applications, and backend infrastructure were not compromised. The attack was limited to an employee device and internal company hot wallet systems. Following the incident, the team proactively took down the web application and carried out full credential rotation, device security reviews, and infrastructure hardening measures to prevent further risk exposure. | Amount of loss: $ 100,000 | Reference: https://x.com/zerion/status/2044167535231414727?s=46&t=DLwbX9Nw4QECiyZQ0av-fg
